Layout of electronic books

The layout of e-books can be quite varied depending on the format and platform on which they will be read. However, regardless of the format, a few general rules can help you create an effective and easy-to-read layout:

  • Use a simple and legible font. It is best to use fonts that are easy to read on any screen. For example, fonts with serifs (Serif) such as Georgia, Times New Roman. Or sans-serif fonts such as Arial, Verdana.
  • Optimize font size and indents. The text should be large enough to be readable on small screens. However, not too big so as not to overload the reader’s attention. It is also important to use indents between paragraphs to make the text more readable.
  • Use a little more than two or three levels of headings. This simplifies the structure of the text and makes it easier for the reader to navigate.

  • Use colors and graphics carefully. Avoid bright colors and saturated graphics. Because it diverts the reader’s attention from the text.
  • Divide the text into sections. This will facilitate navigation and help the reader to find the desired section of the text faster.
  • Ensure compatibility with various devices. This means that the layout needs to be tested on different devices to make sure that the text and images look the same on all devices.
  • Use standards. E-books can be created in different formats. However, it is best to use standard formats. For example, such as EPUB to ensure compatibility and usability for readers.
